Showcasing Australia's Diamonds

Rio Tinto commissioned Curtis Australia to design a special pen that showcased the radiance and beauty of their champagne diamonds to help reinvigorate interest in the United States.


Designed to have a distinctly Australian feel in keeping with the origins of the gems. The diamonds were hand set in a fluid form design much like waves or sand of an Australian beach. The pen incorporates over 600 champagne diamonds and was launched at the G’day USA Australia Day Gala event in Donna Karan’s New York studio featuring Australian actor Hugh Jackman.


The design proved successful for Rio Tinto in gaining media exposure for their champagne diamonds and is still featured on their website. The relationship between these two companies has continued when the founder of Curtis Australia, Glenn Curtis, was invited by Rio Tinto to feature as the only judge outside of the United States to be part of the prestigious 2011 Global Jewellery Design Awards.
